Hofstra Travels to Maine for Busy Weekend

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra field hockey team travel to the state of Maine for its next set of non-conference opponents. The Pride will take on Maine on Friday, September 9, at 3 p.m., followed by a Kent State in a neutral-site contest at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 10.

Both games will be aired live on AmericaEast.tv, as well as live statistics. These links can be found on this page and on the schedule page on GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra currently sits at 1-3 in the early stages of the 2022 season following a pair of one-goal defeats this past weekend. The Pride traveled to face Villanova on September 2, and we defeated 3-2 by the Wildcats with goals from Tara McNally and Teresa Karoff in the fourth quarter. In a home contest against Yale on September 4, Cami Larsson scored a pair of goals in the second half before the horn sounded in a 3-2 loss to the Bulldogs.

Karoff currently leads the Colonial Athletic Association in points scored (8), assists (4), and assists per game (1.00), while Larsson stands tied for first in the conference in goals with three. McNally and Adrianna Losiak have two goals each thus far, while Lieke Gorsse has totaled one goal and two assists for the Pride in midfield. In net, Pieke Roos saw her first action of her collegiate career when she played the entire second half against Villanova, making four saves without allowing a goal, and against Yale, when she made two saves in her first start.

The top pick in the America East Preseason Poll, Maine is coming off a 2021 season where they earned 15 wins and an NCAA Tournament berth as the America East champions. The Black Bears return NFHCA All-Northeast Region Second Team selections Chloe Walton at forward and Mia Borley in goal. Freshman Mallory Mackesy currently leads the squad with six points on three goals. Maine is currently 1-3 on the year following a 5-2 win over Dartmouth this past Friday and a 1-0 loss to Quinnipiac on Sunday.

Winners of 12 contests in 2021, Kent State was picked to finish second in the MAC Preseason Poll. Leading the Golden Flashes in 2022 is first-year midfielder Maia Sarrabayrouse with a goal and an assist, while returning All-MAC First Team defender tallied six goals last season. Following a 5-0 loss to #10 Syracuse and a 3-2 win over Bucknell, Kent State sports a record of 2-2 entering this weekend.

Hofstra holds an 8-17 all-time record against Maine, and this will be the first meeting against the Black Bears since a 4-1 defeat for Hofstra in 2016. Meanwhile, this will be the first time Hofstra and Kent State will compete on the field hockey pitch.

Following this weekend's action, the Pride returns to Hempstead to host LIU on Friday, September 16, at 3 p.m. before traveling to face nationally-ranked Syracuse on September 18 at 1 p.m.
