Staten Island, NY – In the first indoor track race of the 2022-23 season, Hofstra distance runner
Paul Markovina came within 0.2 seconds of setting a new program record with a third-place finish in the Mile at the FastTrack Season Opener from the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
A graduate student Old Westbury, New York, Markovina ran a Mile race in a time of 4:17.09, 0.2 seconds off the record set by Meshack Kipchirchir in 2018. Markovina's time placed him third in a field of 24 runners and 1.6 seconds off second-place finisher Owen Moelter of St. Joseph's.
Fresh off a cross country season that saw him earn CAA Men's Rookie of the Year honors,
Abraham Longosiwa ran a time of 14:36.40 to finish second in the 5000m preliminary. He was joined in the race by
Brian Beck, who finished 11th with a time of 15:44.83.
Aiden Willey finished ninth in the 3000m run with a time of 8:48.29.
Adam Gordon scored a 10th-place finish for the Pride in the 60m Dash Finals, clocking in at 7.68. Cade Jaipaul recorded a time of 8.21 to finish 17th in the event.
Also competing for the Pride in the FastTrack Season Opener was

Alec Padron (39th, 24:35), Jonathan Lahav (25.17) and
Greg Franzetti (62nd, 26.34) in the 200m Dash,
Zachary Kohner (22nd, 2:31.68) in the 800m,
Patrick Wall (22nd, 5:28.51) in the Mile,
Nile Love (11th, 6.25m) and
Adam Gordon (27th, 5.48m) in the long jump, and
James Watterson (35th, 7.99m) in the shot put.
