Hofstra is 11-7 overall and 3-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play after sweeping its two-game home stand against Delaware and Drexel. Led by junior
Aaron Estrada's 26 points, the Pride got past the Dragons, 71-68, on Monday. Hofstra has won three of its last four, six of its last eight, and 10 of its last 13 games.
Estrada has taken over the team-lead in scoring this season as he is now averaging 16.4 points per game, while also contributing a team-best 5.0 assists per outing. Four others average in double figures as graduate student
Zach Cooks (16.1 ppg), graduate student
Jalen Ray (15.5 ppg), sophomore
Darlinstone Dubar (12.4 ppg), and senior
Omar Silverio (11.4 ppg) complete the group. Redshirt senior
Abayomi Iyiola is averaging a team-high 8.9 rebounds per game to go along with 8.3 points per contest.
Northeastern is 6-11 overall and 0-6 in conference action following a narrow 82-76 overtime loss at home to Delaware on Monday. Shaquille Walters led the Huskies with 23 points in that contest.
Walters leads Northeastern in scoring this season with 13.3 points per game. Similar to Hofstra, five players average in double figures with Jahmyl Telfort (13.2 ppg), Tyreek Scott-Grayson (12.3 ppg), Nikola Djogo (12.2 ppg), and Chris Doherty (10.8 ppg) accounting for their double figure scorers. Doherty is averaging 9.4 rebounds per game to lead the Huskies in that category.
Hofstra leads the all-time series with Northeastern, 26-25. The series has been quite competitive over the last few years between two of the CAA heavyweights as the squads met in the conference championship game in both 2018-19 and 2019-20. The Pride has won nine of the last 14 meetings between the teams. Northeastern won both meetings a season ago but Hofstra was victorious in all three contests in 2019-20.
