The Pride opened the season with a 2-0 loss to Lafayette on Friday before routing Wagner 5-1 at home on Sunday, putting them at 1-1 on the year. Junior goalkeeper
Merlijn van der Vegt made seven saves against the Leopards. Against Wagner, eight members of the team found their way onto the scoresheet, with junior
Mercedes Currie scoring twice and freshman
Tara McNally dishing out a pair of assists. Freshman
Lieke Gorsse scored once and assisted once in the win, earning her CAA Rookie of the Week honors on Tuesday.
Following an eight-win season in the spring and earning the program's first BIG EAST Tournament appearance since 2016, Temple was picked to finish fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll and return several starters, headlined by 2020 All-Conference Second Team and NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team selection Nienke Oerlemans along the backline. The Owls opened their season with wins at home over Merrimack and Drexel, and Julianne Kopec leads the team with two goals.
Davidson comes to Hofstra following a loss to Indiana and a win over Central Michigan to start their 2021 season. Slated sixth in the Atlantic-10 Preseason Poll, the Wildcats return Atlantic-10 All-Rookie Charlie Kabelac in midfield and Amy Worscheh, who led the team in points last season. Macy Curtis and Izzy Moody both found the back of the net for the Wildcats in their win over Central Michigan.
Hofstra has played Temple 11 time in program history and sports a 2-9 record against the Owls, including a 1-0 result for Temple to open the 2020 season. Sunday's contest will be the first-ever meeting between Hofstra and Davidson.
