Hempstead, NY - The
Hofstra men's basketball team was recognized for its strong academic work this past year as the Pride earned the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award for 2020-21. This award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2020-21 season.
For the 2020-21 academic year, the men's basketball program compiled a 3.16 grade point average.
Hofstra was one of just two Colonial Athletic Association institutions (Delaware) to receive the distinction.
In order to earn a
NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, institutions in the NCAA, NAIA and
NJCAA must count the grade point averages of all men's student-athletes who competed during the 2020-21 season.
The men's basketball program has been honored several times for its academic work with
Tareq Coburn earning CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades as well as CAA Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. Coburn and Kevin Schutte were also recognized by the NABC for their classroom achievements by being named to the NABC Honors Court earlier this week.
