New Orleans - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their individual and team All-Academic honors today, and graduate student
Alex Masai received All-Academic honors for the indoor/outdoor track season. In addition, the men's and women's teams were named All-Academic teams for the men's and women's track seasons.
For an individual to be receive USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, they must hold a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have either participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships or have finished ranked in the top 48 in the East or West regions for the outdoor season. For a team to be named an All-Academic team, the cumulative grade point average of the team must be above a 3.0.
A graduate student from Eldoret, Kenya, Masai earned two All-America finishes for the Pride at this year's NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, becoming the first Hofstra track athlete to earn All-America honors. He finished sixth in the 10,000m race before securing a 10th-place finish in the 5000m. Masai was also named the Northeast Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year, and was the CAA champion in the 5000m at the 2021 CAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Masai holds a 3.84 cumulative grade point average as a Higher Education Leadership & Policy Studies major.
The Pride men's track team finished the season with a cumulative grade point average of 3.32. Meanwhile, the women's team finished with a 3.54 cumulative grade point for the 2020-21 academic year. The men's team finished fourth at the CAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, while the women's team finished ninth.
