MLAX: Hofstra Heads to Fairfield to Begin CAA Play

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra men's lacrosse team looks to return to action this coming Friday, March 26, for a 7 p.m. showdown with Fairfield from Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium to open Colonial Athletic Association play.

The Lax Sports Network will provide a digital broadcast of Friday's game, while Fairfield will stream the game through Facebook Live. A live statistical broadcast will also be available. These links are included on this page and on the men's lacrosse schedule page at GoHofstra.com.

3-1 on the year and ranked No. 19 and No. 16 in the media polls by Inside Lacrosse and US Lacrosse Magazine, respectively, Hofstra comes into this game sporting one of the top offenses in the country, tying for fourth in scoring offense (17.25 goals per game) and seventh in points per game (26.25 Senior Ryan Tierney leads the country in goals scored per game (5.75) and points per game (7.50) while graduate students Alex Concannon ranks 10th in the country in goals per game (3.75) and 29th in points per game (4.75). Graduate student Justin Lynskey has also been a key cog in the high-powered Hofstra offense, totaling 2.25 goals per game and 4.00 points per game.

Graduate Student Michael Altmann and seniors Dominic Pryor and Tom Ford lead with four of Hofstra's 28 caused turnovers on the year. In face-offs, senior Brian Herber and sophomore Chase Patterson lead a unit that ranks fifth in the nation in face-off winning percentage (.674) while also powering Hofstra in ground ball pickups with 34.75 per game, good for 13th nationally.

In the Pride's last game against Wagner on March 2, Tierney scored six goals to become the all-time leader for goals at Hofstra and points in the Colonial Athletic Association in an 18-6 win over the Seahawks. Concannon added a hat-trick and two assists for five points on the day, while Lynskey scored twice and assisted twice for four points. Altmann led the defense with three of a season-high 11 caused turnovers for the Pride. Redshirt sophomore Mac Gates earned his third win of the season with five saves in net for the Pride.

2-3 on the year and 0-2 in the CAA, Fairfield enters Friday's fixture after a 14-8 win at home over Sacred Heart. The Stags are led on offense by Dylan Beckwith, who leads the team with 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points. Matt Chlastawa, with seven goals and eight assists for 15 points, and Taylor Strough, who has posted 10 goals and two assists in five games, also look to be dangerous pieces for Fairfield. Jake Tymon leads the Fairfield defense with nine caused turnovers, while Colin Consoli has posted a .504 save percentage in all five games for Fairfield.

The two sides have met 11 times entering Friday's game, with Hofstra holding a 6-5 advantage in the series. The teams last met in the 2019 season finale, with Hofstra coming away with an 11-9 win.
