Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra field hockey team will head south to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the start of Colonial Athletic Association play. The Pride will take on Drexel from Buckley Field on Sunday, March 21, at 3 p.m.

Hofstra carries a 2-5 record into Sunday's conference opener following home losses to Fairfield and UAlbany. Junior

Gabriela Espinoza scored their first goals of the season in Hofstra's 3-2 loss to Fairfield, with freshman
Jasmijn Verdoes providing the assist on both goals. In the team's 2-0 defeat to UAlbany, sophomore
Merlijn van der Vegt made three saves in the net. Verdoes leads the team in scoring with seven points on two goals and three assists for seven points, putting her in a tie with Northeastern's Lauren Rowe for the most points in the CAA this season.
Drexel comes into Sunday's game at 1-1 following a 2-0 win over La Salle and a 1-0 loss to Temple. Leading the offense for the Dragons are Martina Gabriella and Eline Di Leva, who have one goal each. Drexel also returns leading scorer Puk Thewessen and Avery Powell, while last year's top goalkeeper Megan Hadfield is back for another season in net.
Hofstra trails Drexel in the all-time series, 16-22. In the latest meeting between the two conference foes, Drexel traveled to Hempstead and came away with a 1-0 win. The Pride is looking for their first win over the Dragons since a 3-2 overtime win in 2015.
