Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra field hockey team looks to wrap up non-conference play this week as the Pride plays host to Fairfield on Friday (Mar. 12) and UAlbany on Sunday (Mar. 14). Both games are scheduled for 2 p.m. start-times.
There will be Pride Productions live video and audio and live statistics available for both matches, with WRHU providing commentary for Friday's game. These links are listed at the top of this page and on the field hockey schedule page at GoHofstra.com.
Hofstra rides a two-game winning streak heading into this weekend's slate of action. The Pride are coming off a 1-0 overtime road win over Wagner on Friday (Mar. 5) and a tight 1-0 win at home against Sacred Heart on Sunday (Mar. 7). Freshman Jasmijn Verdoes, who was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, scored one goal and dished out one assist in the team's wins this past weekend. She scored the game-winner in overtime against Wagner, and she set up sophomore Mercedes Currie for the lone goal in the Pride's win over Sacred Heart.
Picked to finish first in the Northeast Conference this season, Fairfield brings back last year's leading point-scorers in Danielle Profita (8 G, 9 A) and returning NEC Player of the Year Luzi Persiehl (6 G, 11 A). In defense, the Stags return their top netminder in Zoe Rosen, who was named All-NEC Second Team after helping Fairfield to the NEC-best 1.12 goals against average and the top defense in the conference in 2019.
For UAlbany, who was selected to finish third in the America East Coaches Poll, the Great Danes bring back three of the team's 2019 leading scorers in Kate MacCullum (9 G, 7 A), Kelsey McCrudden (1 G, 14 A) and Cosima Rocktaeschel (6 G, 3 A), in addition to 19-game starters Rachel Schannauer and Carli Pelletier on defense.
The Pride are 27-9 all-time against Fairfield, while the Pride hold a 1-9 record against UAlbany. This will be the first meeting between Hofstra and Fairfield since 2018, a 1-0 win for the Stags, while the Pride have not faced the Great Danes since 2016.
Fans are not permitted at Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium for Sunday's game and there will be no tickets available.
