11/4/2021 12:15:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Seth Tierney has announced the promotion of John Gorman to the position of associate head coach.

Gorman recently completed the third season of his second stint as the assistant coach of the Pride in the 2021 season. He was also a member of the coaching staff from August 2012 through August 2016 as an assistant coach/assistant defensive coordinator.

"John has been a big part of this program as a student-athlete and now as a coach, and this is a well-earned promotion for him," said Tierney. "He has a great mind for the game and he is able to get the most out of players. We're incredibly happy to have him on our sideline."

The Pride advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Game for the first time since 2014 this past season, and Hofstra saw Michael Altmann and Keegan Santos earn All-CAA honors. The Hofstra defense ranked 20th in the country in scoring defense in 2019, and they finished the COVID-shortened 2020 season 18th in scoring defense.

Gorman returned to Hofstra in August 2018 after spending two years as an assistant coach/defensive coordinator for the Rutgers men's lacrosse team. During his tenure with the Scarlet Knights, Gorman helped lead the defense to overall team rankings of 18th in 2017 and 23rd in 2018. Additionally, Rutgers had five All-Americans, five All-Big 10 honorees, and one Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year under Gorman's tutelage.

A graduate of Hofstra University in 2007, Gorman suited up at defensive midfield for the Pride in 40 games from 2005 through 2007, and was a member of the 2006 men's lacrosse team that won a program-record 17 games and was ranked as high as No. 2 in the country.
