Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University alumnus and Tampa Bay Lightning Head Coach Jon Cooper captured the Stanley Cup on Monday evening as Cooper led his squad to a 2-0 win over the Dallas Stars in game six of the Stanley Cup Final.

A 1989 graduate of Hofstra and a four-year member of the Hofstra men's lacrosse team, Cooper completed his seventh full season at the helm of the Lightning. He spearheaded the Lightning to a 43-win season and the second seed in the Eastern Conference of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This is the second Stanley Cup victory for the Lightning in franchise history, after lifting the Cup in 2004.
Cooper was named head coach of the Lightning in March 2013 after consecutive successful tenures with the Norfolk Admirals and the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League (AHL). Along with his stints in the AHL, Cooper coached the St. Louis Bandits of the North American Hockey League and the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League. Cooper won a league championship with each team he coached, now including his Stanley Cup victory.
A native of Prince George, British Columbia, Canada, Cooper tallied 74 goals and 25 assists for 99 points in his four seasons on the lacrosse team (1986-89). He was a member of East Coast Conference championship teams in 1988 and 1989 and graduated fifth all-time in goals scored and ninth all-time in points scored at Hofstra. Cooper graduated from Hofstra in 1989 with degree business administration.
