Welcome to the Hofstra Family Spotlight. Our goal is to showcase our Hofstra Family members, including our loyal corporate partners and season ticket holders, to let the Hofstra community learn more about them and how they support the Pride athletics program.
Steve Goldman has been part of the Hofstra family for 34 years. Steve earned three degrees from the University, completing his BA in communications (1990), MSEd in secondary education (1995), and a BA in mathematics (1996). He currently works as a high school mathematics teacher and resides in Bay Shore, New York.
Steve has a unique connection with Hofstra Athletics. He was the sports director at WRHU from 1986 to 1990, broadcasting both football and basketball games. This is where he initially became a fan of the program, and he now chooses to enjoy Hofstra basketball with his wife, De-De, and close friends, who are usually fellow Hofstra alums.
From working alongside the program to becoming a fan, Steve has numerous fond memories from attending Hofstra games. The 1999-00 America East Championship game specifically stood out to him, remembering exactly where he sat. Top-seeded Hofstra defeated Delaware,76-69, to claim the America East title that year. Highlighting the championship run, was then-junior standout
Speedy Claxton, a personal favorite his. "I never saw the public react as much to anyone as they did to
Speedy Claxton," he said. "Every time he touched the ball, you could hear every kid in the arena screaming his name."
Though perhaps his favorite memory came in a road game during his senior year against Tulane. Steve was broadcasting the game in which Hofstra came back from an 18-point deficit in the second half to win in overtime. It is a memory that he will cherish for the rest of his life.
Steve specifically admires the progression Hofstra Athletics has made since he was an undergraduate student. "I love seeing how far my alma mater has progressed, as well as how much the sports programs have evolved over the past 30-plus years. This program has come a long way, and I've seen many great players represent this University by wearing the uniform with pride and dignity. I've met some great people along the way."
When asked what his favorite part of being a part of the Hofstra Pride family is, he points to the 'all-in' atmosphere Hofstra provides. "Every single person involved assumes a personal stake in the outcome of every event. I love how the players have embraced the culture and how much they extend themselves to the fans. I look forward to each and every game."
Hofstra Athletics is proud to have Steve Goldman as part of our family. The success of our student-athletes, and the University in general, are not possible without the incredible support of our entire family.
