Hempstead NY – Three of the greatest to ever play for the Hofstra women's lacrosse program will team up for one final go-round.

In light of the NCAA Division I Council's vote on March 30 to allow schools to provide spring-sport student-athletes an additional season of competition and an extension of their period of eligibility, Hofstra seniors Alexa Mattera, Alyssa Parrella, and Darcie Smith announced today that they will return to campus in the fall and compete as a member of the Pride during the 2020-21 academic year.

"We are so thankful to the NCAA Division I Council for their decision that benefits the student-athletes," commented Hofstra Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Shannon Smith. "Having Alexa, Alyssa, and Darcie back for another year will benefit our program in a multitude of ways. They are incredible representatives of our program on and off the field and we are thrilled we get to see them suit up for the Pride for another season."

Mattera, who had 17 points (16 G, 1 A), 18 draw controls, 13 ground balls, and eight caused turnovers this season, has career totals of 122 points, 104 goals, 18 assists, 182 draw controls, 92 ground balls, and 51 caused turnovers. Only the 11th player in program history to reach 100 career goals, she ranks 10th in program history in goals and second in draw controls.

Parrella had 31 points (27 G, 4 A), 12 draw controls, nine ground balls, and four caused turnovers in 2020. She has career totals of 292 points, 216 goals, 76 assists, 142 draw controls, 88 ground balls, and 41 caused turnovers. She ranks first all-time in Hofstra history in goals, fourth in assists, first in points, and seventh in draw controls.

Smith posted 46 draw controls, 11 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers, and a goal this season. She has totaled 207 draw controls, 109 ground balls, 59 caused turnovers, and 10 points (8 G, 2 A) in her career. The best draw control specialist in program history, she ranks first all-time at Hofstra in that category, while ranking 11th in caused turnovers.
