WLAX: Hofstra Heads To BC For Nationally-Televised Contest

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra women's lacrosse team will face another stern test this week when it heads north to face 2019 national runner-up Boston College on Wednesday. 

Opening draw control from Newton Campus Lacrosse & Soccer Field is slated for 4 p.m. 

The game will air nationally on television on the ACC Network. There will also be live video, via ESPN+, as well as live statistics. Links to all can be found on this page and on the women's lacrosse schedule page at GoHofstra.com. 

Hofstra is 4-2 after seeing its four-game win streak come to an end on Saturday in a road loss to #10 Maryland. Senior Alexa Mattera had four goals, including the 100th of her career, while junior Katie Whelan posted three goals in the contest. Senior Darcie Smith tallied eight draw controls in the game to become the program's all-time leader in that category with 203 in her stellar career. 

Senior Alyssa Parrella leads Hofstra in scoring this season with 27 points on 24 goals and three assists. Mattera ranks second on the squad with 16 points on 15 goals and one assist, while Whelan is third with 15 points on 10 goals and a team-best five assists. Darcie Smith leads the team with 42 draw controls and 10 caused turnovers, while Mattera is tops on the team with 13 ground balls. Sophomore Jess Smith has a 10.89 goals against average, a .508 saves percentage, and has made 66 saves in net this season for the Pride. 

Boston College is 3-3 this season and coming off an 11-7 loss to #2 Notre Dame on Saturday. Charlotte North leads the Eagles with 27 points on 20 goals and seven assists. She also has a team-best 48 draw controls. Rachel Hall leads the team with 16 ground balls, while she also is the team's primary goalie with a 11.89 goals against average, a .446 saves percentage, and has made 54 saves this year. 

Hofstra is 3-13 all-time against Boston College but the teams have not met since a narrow 12-10 Eagles win in 2012.
