MTRK: Masai Qualifies for NCAA Division I Indoor National Championship with Nation’s Third-Fastest Mark

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Senior Alex Masai qualified for the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field National Championship in the 5000m run with an incredible time of 13:28.55 at the BU Last Chance Meet at the BU Track and Tennis Center on Friday evening.
 
Masai's time checked in as the third-fastest time throughout all of NCAA Division I this season. He finished first among collegiate runners and 13th overall and beat out several other professional runners.
 
Sophomore Paul Markovina also competed at the BU Last Chance Meet in the men's 3000m run. He posted a time of 8:32.04 in the event, a personal best by over six seconds, good for 17th place out of nearly 40 runners.
 
Several other Hofstra runners also competed at the Fastrack Last Chance Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island. The Pride received a top-10 finish from Gavin Jones who competed in the long jump for the first time in his career, leaping a distance of 19' 5.5'' which was good for ninth place.  
 
The Hofstra men's team concluded competition for the indoor season, however Masai will run for a national championship in the 5000 on the weekend of March 13-14. The meet will take place at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
