INSIDE THE SERIES
Hofstra leads the all-time series against the Phoenix, 10-2. Hofstra is currently on a six-game win streak against Elon and has only lost one game in the past three seasons. The first meeting occurred on April 18, 2015 when Hofstra won, 4-1.
LAST SEASON AGAINST ELON
During the regular season, Hofstra swept the series, 3-0. The Pride opened up with a dominant 10-1 victory before winning game two of the doubleheader, 5-1, while closing out the series with an 8-2 victory on Sunday.
ABOUT HOFSTRA
Hofstra will need to continue to rely on its offense to get by the Phoenix. The Pride continue to post a solid team batting average of .307 which is ranked third in the CAA and 32nd in the nation.
Meghan Giordano continues to pace the squad with a .390 average with 53 total hits, tied for the most on the team with junior
Kristin Hallam. In addition, Giordano has made a leap in the single-season record books with 19 RBI in the past three weeks, an average of 1.9 over her last 10 games, well above her season average of 1.18 RBI per game which currently ranks 12th in the nation. She has now driven in 53 runs during her freshman campaign, tied for third in a single-season.
This weekend, every bat will be an important one in the lineup. Last weekend and over the past two series,
Lydia Witkowski has been the most consistent bat in the lineup, hitting an even .500 (8-for-16), while
Courtney Scarpato has had 10 hits over the last two weeks with one double and five RBI.
Kasey Collins will also be a go-to hitter in the top of the order.
ABOUT ELON
Elon is led offensively by Megan White, who is hitting .337 this year with eight home runs, which is tied for the most on the team with Ally Repko. The biggest advantage to the Phoenix is its depth and ability to drive in runs consistently throughout the whole lineup. Six players have at least 20 RBI this season, while 10 have reached double digits. Within the conference, Elon ranks first with 1.75 doubles per game, also sitting eighth nationally.
Elon's ace in the circle looks to be Abby Barker, who has compiled a 2.66 ERA in the circle with a 16-1 record through 137.0 innings pitched. Hofstra will likely also see Kenna Quinn, Hailey Jomp, or Elise Walton inside the circle.
UP NEXT
Hofstra will await the results of this weekend's contest to learn its fate to participate in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship.
