MLAX: Hofstra Wraps Up Season At Fairfield Friday Night

Hempstead, NY – The 2019 Hofstra Men's Lacrosse season will come to an end this Friday, April 26 when the Pride travel to Connecticut for face the Stags of Fairfield University at Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Game time for the Colonial Athletic Association finale for both teams is 7 p.m.
 
Fairfield will stream the contest on live and free of charge on Facebook Live. The Stags will also provide live stats through Sidearm Sports. Links for both can be found elsewhere on this page as well as on the Hofstra Men's Lacrosse schedule page on GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra, which is 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the CAA, has wins over Lehigh (4-3), Utah (14-10), St. John's (9-7), and UMass (10-9 in OT) this season. The Pride has dropped games to nationally-ranked Villanova (10-9 in OT), Georgetown (14-6), Ohio State (14-8) and Towson (10-9), as well as Stony Brook (11-10), Providence (11-10), Rutgers (10-7), Delaware (13-7) and Drexel (13-12).
 
In the Pride's last outing against Drexel on Long Island last Saturday, Hofstra never trailed in the contest through the first 45 minutes of the contest and led 11-8 after three quarters. But the Dragons went on a five-goal run over the first 10:03 of the fourth quarter to take a 13-11 lead. Sophomore Joey Elarde would score his third goal of the game with 4:19 to cut the deficit to 13-12 but that's all the Pride would get as Drexel advanced to the CAA Championship Tournament and Hofstra was eliminated.

In addition to Elarde's career-high three goals and one assist, junior Ryan Tierney equaled his career-high with eight points on five goals and three assists. Sophomore Dylan McIntosh added two goals and one assist while classmate Bryce Tolmie posted a goal and two assists. Sophomore Bobby Casey recorded 13 saves for his ninth double-digit save game of the season.
 
On the season, Hofstra is led in scoring by Tierney, who cracked the 50-point mark for the first time in his career. He now has career-highs of 39 goals and 50 points with his 11 assists. Senior Jimmy Yanes is second on the team in scoring with seven goals and seven assists while sophomore Riley Forte has eight goals and four assists. Junior Ryan Kinnard has tallied 10 goals and one assist while McIntosh has nine goals and one assist. Casey now has a 10.33 goals against average with 143 saves and a .514 save percentage.
 
The Stags of Fairfield are 5-8 on the season and 0-4 in the CAA this season. Fairfield has wins over Sacred Heart (12-11), Siena (21-15), Bryant (12-11 in OT), Utah (10-9 in OT) and NJIT (18-5). Their losses have come against Saint Joseph's (21-10), Rutgers (8-4), Georgetown (19-6), Villanova (12-8), Delaware (15-7), Towson (14-7), Drexel (21-9) and UMass (17-8). The Stags, who are on a five-game losing skid, average 10.15 goals per game and allow 13.69 per outing.
 
Fairfield is led by the CAA's leading point-getter in junior Dylan Beckwith with 28 goals and 32 assists for 60 points. Sophomore Taylor Strough has added 23 goals and seven assists while junior Travis Ford has posted 21 goals and seven assists. Freshman Patrick Drake has contributed 17 goals and 10 assists. Freshman James Corasaniti has a 12.63 goals against average with 126 saves and a .467 save percentage in 12 games this season.
 
Hofstra and Fairfield will be meeting for the 11th time on Friday in a series that began in 2002. The series is tied at 5-5. The two programs met last on April 6, 2018 with the Stags recording a 5-4 victory at James M. Shuart Stadium on Long Island. The last Hofstra victory came on April 1, 2017 with the Pride posting a 10-6 win at Fairfield.

Friday night's contest will be the last contest for seven Hofstra student-athletes and one student-assistant coach. The seven seniors are attackman Jimmy Yanes, midfielders Griffin Barnathan, James Kitchen, Joe Cuccias, and graduate-student Mark Ellis, and defenders Brian Philbin and Jonathan Warg. Brian Cameron is the student-assistant coach.
