The Pride is coming off a heartbreaking 11-10 loss to Stony Brook at Shuart Stadium on Tuesday. Hofstra battled back from a 10-7 deficit with 6:00 to play in the fourth quarter to tie the contest on three unanswered goals by freshman Whit Stopak, the last with 1:49 to play in regulation time. But Stony Brook's Tom Haun scored his fifth goal of the game just 29 seconds later to give the Seawolves the victory.

The loss overshadowed Stopak's outstanding night for the Pride. Junior Ryan Kinnard added two goals and classmate Ryan Tierney chipped in with a goal and an assist for Hofstra. Sophomore goalie Bobby Casey made eight saves in the Pride goal as Hofstra was outshot 33-29 in the contest. The Stony Brook contest was the Pride's third one-goal decision of the season after a 4-3 win at then-#14 Lehigh on February 9, and a 10-9 overtime loss at then-#14 Villanova on February 23.

The Pride is led in scoring by Tierney with 11 goals and two assists while Stopak now has five goals and no assists. Sophomore James Philbin has four goals and one assist while classmate Riley Forte has two goals and three assists. Casey has an 8.45 goals against average with 43 saves and a .558 save percentage.

The 20th-ranked Hoyas of Georgetown are 3-1 on the season following their 13-11 victory at Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Maryland on Tuesday. Jake Carraway led the Hoyas with four goals and two assists against the Mountaineers. Daniel Bucaro and Massimo Bucci each added two goals while Robert Clark tallied two goals and two assists. Previously, Georgetown posted wins over Sacred Heart (13-10) and Robert Morris (14-11) and suffered a 14-8 loss to Towson on February 23.

The Hoyas are led by Bucaro with 13 goals and seven assists in four games this season. Carraway has added 12 goals and seven assists while Lucas Wittenberg has posted five goals and a team-high eight assists. Clark has six goals and four assists. In the Georgetown cage is Owen McElroy, who has a 12.47 goals against average with 44 saves and a .500 save percentage.

Hofstra and Georgetown will be meeting for the ninth time on Saturday with the Hoyas holding a 5-3 series lead. The two teams were supposed to meet in Hempstead last season but the game was cancelled when Georgetown was stuck on their team bus on a New Jersey highway for approximately 18 hours during an ice storm. Hofstra and Georgetown last met in 2017 in Washington, D.C. with the Pride posting an 11-9 decision.

Following the Georgetown contest, the Pride will continue with their homestand on Saturday, March 9 against the Buckeyes of Ohio State at Shuart Stadium. Game time is 12 p.m.
