WLAX: Hofstra Entertains Wagner In Home Opener

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team will host Wagner in its home opener on Tuesday. 

First draw control is scheduled for 3 p.m. from James M. Shuart Stadium. 

There will be Pride Productions live video and audio of the game, as well as live statistics. Links to all three can be found on this page as well as the women's lacrosse schedule page at GoHofstra.com. 

Hofstra will bring a 1-1 mark into the game after a dominant 13-4 victory over Bucknell on Saturday. Sophomore Katie Whelan led the Pride with four points on two goals and two assists, while junior Alexa Mattera posted a hat trick for the Pride. Defensively, freshman Jess Smith tallied 11 saves for the second straight game, while junior Darcie Smith (no relation) had six draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls. 

Whelan leads the Pride with nine points this season on six goals and three assists. Junior Alyssa Parrella is tied for team-high honors with six goals. Darcie Smith has posted nine draw controls and five caused turnovers to lead the Pride in both categories, while Jess Smith has seven ground balls for tops on the team. 

Wagner is also 1-1 this season and most recently defeated Iona, 14-4, last Wednesday. Stephanie Falcone had five goals to pace the Seahawk offensive attack in the game. Anna Belle Reilly leads Wagner this season with seven points on five goals and two assists, while Falcone has six points (5 G, 1 A). Erin Kerstetter has 11 draw controls to lead Wagner in that category and is tied for the team lead with six ground balls. 

Hofstra is 2-0 all-time against Wagner and defeated the Seahawks, 15-10, in Staten Island last season.
