FH: Hofstra Heads South To Face Two CAA Foes This Weekend

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Field Hockey team will head south to Virginia this weekend for two key Colonial Athletic Association contests. The Pride will face the Tribe of William and Mary on Friday, October 11 at 6 p.m. at Busch Field in Williamsburg before trekking to face the Dukes of James Madison in Harrisonburg, Virginia on Sunday, October 13 at noon at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.

William and Mary will provide live stats of Friday night's contest which can be accessed through HofstraStats.com. James Madison will provide live video and audio, and live stats of Sunday's game. Links for both games can be found elsewhere on this page as well as on the Hofstra Field Hockey schedule page on GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra is 5-6 on the season and 0-1 in the CAA following their 1-0 loss to Drexel on October 4. The Pride, who have won five of their last seven games, is coming off a 4-0 victory over Merrimack last Sunday in a contest that saw Hofstra senior Madison Warfel tally two goals and one assist and freshman goalie Merlijn van der Vegt post her first collegiate shutout.
 
Hofstra is led in scoring by sophomore Cami Larsson with six goals and one assist in 11 games this season. She has two penalty stroke goals and three game-winning goals. Warfel has chipped in with five goals and one assist while sophomore Djuna Slort has added one goal and three assists. In goal, the Dutch newcomer van der Vegt now has a 1.83 goals against average, 52 saves, and a .754 save percentage in her nine outings.
 
The Tribe of William and Mary are 5-5 overall and 1-0 in the CAA after their 5-2 win over James Madison. The Tribe has won its last two games including a 7-2 decision over Georgetown last Sunday. In addition to JMU and Georgetown, William and Mary has wins over LIU (2-0), Monmouth (3-1) and Vermont (3-1). Their losses have come against Duke (4-0), Old Dominion (3-1), VCU (1-0 in SO), North Carolina (8-0) and Longwood (1-0). The Tribe average 2.10 goals per game and allow an average of 2.20 per contest. William and Mary is led in scoring by senior Christie van de Kamp with four goals and three assists. Senior Annie Snead and sophomore Cara Menges each have three goals and four assists. In goal sophomore Kimi Jones has a 2.28 goals against average with 32 saves, a .667 save percentage and a 5-4 record.
 
Friday's contest is the 22nd meeting between Hofstra and William and Mary. The Tribe hold a 14-7 series lead and have won the last three encounters including a 1-0 decision in Hempstead last season. Hofstra's last victory in the series came in 2015 with the Pride posting a 3-2 decision in Williamsburg.

The Dukes of James Madison are 4-7 on the season and 0-1 in the CAA. The Dukes, who have dropped five of their last seven games, are coming off a 2-1 win over Richmond on October 6th.JMU has wins over Bucknell (3-2), Georgetown (3-2), Old Dominion (3-1) and Richmond and losses to Liberty (5-1), Ohio State (3-0), American (2-1), Maryland (4-0), Virginia (2-0), North Carolina (9-0) and William and Mary (5-2). The Dukes average 1.36 goals per game on offense and 3.27 goals on defense. James Madison is led in scoring by senior Miranda Rigg with six goals and three assists while freshman Eveline Zwager has added three goals and one assist in eight games. The Dukes have utilized three goalies this season with red-shirt sophomore Kylie LeBlanc seeing the most action (336 minutes) and posting a 3.39 goals against average with 28 saves and a .596 save percentage.
 
Sunday's contest is the 20th meeting between Hofstra and JMU with the Dukes holding a 14-5 series lead. The Pride won last year's encounter, 1-0 in Hempstead to snap a seven-game losing skid.

Following Sunday's game at James Madison, the Pride will return home for their final two non-conference games. Hofstra will host the Sharks of Long Island University on Saturday, October 19 for a 1 p.m. contest before hosting the Broncs of Rider on Sunday, October 20 at 1 p.m.
