Hempstead, NY – Pride goalie
Betty Bosma stopped eight of nine Tribe shots on goal but Woodard Hooper's goal five minutes into the contest stood up as William and Mary defeated Hofstra, 1-0 in a Colonial Athletic Association contest at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Sunday afternoon.
William and Mary improved to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the CAA while Hofstra falls to 3-10 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
Hooper took a pass from Estelle Hughes just five minutes into the game and beat Bosma to the left for the contest's only tally. While the Tribe had a big advantage in shots (23-3) in the contest, the Hofstra defense and Bosma thwarted the Tribe attacks time and again to keep the deficit within one goal. But the William and Mary defense was equally outstanding in stopping the Pride attacks. Tribe goalie Kimi Jones needed to make one save for her third win of the season.
Hofstra will return to action on Friday, October 5 when the Pride host Northeastern in a CAA contest at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Game time is 3 p.m.
