Hempstead, NY – Hofstra graduate-student
Valerie Vogels scored the first two goals of her short college career but the Bald Eagles jumped out to an early lead and didn't relinquish it as Lock Haven (6-3) defeated the Pride (2-9), 5-2 in a non-conference game at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Vogels, a graduate school transfer from the Netherlands, scored her first goal in the 39
th minute on a penalty corner on a high shot to the left of Lock Haven goalie Brianna DeAngelis (2 saves). Senior
Madison Sauve inserted the ball and classmate
Madison Reed stopped the pass to pick up assists on the goal.
But it was 2-0 before the Pride goal as the Bald Eagles scored at the 1:20 mark as Dana-Lee De Gannes tipped a shot over Pride freshman goalie
Betty Bosma (3 saves) and Taryn Piano tipped in a shot by Alyscia Smith in the 13
th minute for the lead.
After Vogels goal, Lock Haven tallied unanswered goals by Smith-the second a penalty stroke- just two minutes apart to open up a 4-1 lead. Vogels cut the deficit to 4-2 at the 52:44 mark off a similar penalty corner with sophomore

The Bald Eagles closed out the scoring with 0:11 remaining on an outstanding effort by De Gannes along the end line and beating Bosma.
