FH: Hofstra Falls To Rival Rider

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Field Hockey team had their biggest offensive output of the season but they couldn't stop a potent Rider (4-3) attack as the Broncs posted a 10-4 victory over the Pride (2-8) at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Friday afternoon.

Four different players scored the Hofstra goals with four different players recording assists. For Rider, Julia Divorra tallied two goals and three assists while Carly Brosious added two goals and two assists. Marion Waterkeyn and Kaitlyn Flemming also tallied two goals each for the Broncs.

Rider scored twice in the first 4:52 as Tess Coorens, who added two assists later in the contest, gave the Broncs the lead. But Hofstra would sandwich goals by Madison Georgiana and Djuna Slort around a Brosious tally to close to 3-2 in the 22nd minute. But Rider would go on a 4-0 run, scoring two more in the first half and two to open the second period to open up a 7-2 advantage with 24:01 to play in the contest.

Hofstra would sandwich goals by Frankie O'Brien and Samantha Schlegel around a Flemming goal to move the score to 8-4 with less than 14:00 to play. The Broncs scored the last two goals in the final 9:27 to wrap up the day's offensive explosion.

Rider outshot Hofstra, 23-11 and took seven penalty corners to the Pride's five. Hofstra's Betty Bosma recorded three saves and allowed seven goals before being lifted in the 46th minute. Rider's Lena VanDam also recorded three saves in 70 minutes of action.
 
Hofstra will host the Eagles of Lock Haven on Sunday, September 23 at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Game time is noon.

- Hofstra is now 14-13 all-time against Rider.
- Red-shirt sophomore Madison Georgiana scored a goal in the second consecutive game.
- Sophomore goalie Cecelia DeSimone made her 2018 debut and played 24:01 and allowed three goals in the Pride goal.
 Hofstra is 0-1 all-time against Sunday's opponent, Lock Haven.
