FH: Hofstra Gets Tripped Up At Monmouth

West Long Branch, NJ – Despite recording seven penalty corners, the Hofstra Field Hockey team dropped a 2-0 non-conference decision to the Hawks of Monmouth at So Sweet A Cat Field Sunday afternoon.

Monmouth, which won its second consecutive contest, improved to 2-1 on the season. Hofstra, which dropped its third straight contest, falls to 1-3 on the young season.

Hofstra outshot the Hawks, 7-4 and had five penalty corners in the scoreless first half. But the Hawks scored 3:33 into the second half as Annick van Lange converted a cross in front. Monmouth added an insurance goal with 3:01 to play as Kelly Hanna picked up a loose ball in front and put it past Hofstra goalie Betty Bosma.

The Pride was led by freshman Cami Larsson with four shots while sophomore Hannah Zemaitis and freshman Djuna Slort each added two shots. Bosma recorded four saves, including three in the first half, in the contest.

In the contest, Monmouth outshot the Pride, 12-10 while Hofstra finished with seven penalty corners to the Hawks four.

The Pride return to action on Friday, September 7 when Hofstra travels to New Haven, Connecticut to face the Bulldogs of Yale at 4 p.m.

Notes:
- Hofstra is now 6-2 against Monmouth with the Hawks winning the last two encounters.
- The Pride will have their fifth game of the season away from the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium next Friday at Yale.
- Next Friday's game against Yale will be the 27th contest in the series with the Bulldogs holding a 17-9 series lead.
- Hofstra will begin its home schedule next Sunday, September 9 when the Pride host Bryant at 2 p.m.
