Djuna Slort scored the Pride's lone goal but the Lions scored three times in the first half and twice in the second period as Columbia defeated Hofstra, 5-1 at the Columbia Field Hockey Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Columbia improved to 3-2 on the season with their second consecutive victory while Hofstra falls to 1-7 with their seventh consecutive loss.
The Lions scored twice in the first 12 minutes on goals by Emily Maclean and Jennifer Trieschman to jump out to the lead. But Slort closed the deficit in the 28th minute off a penalty corner with senior

Madison Georgiana picking up assists. It was Slort's first goal of her collegiate career.
But Columbia's Trieschman scored her second of the game just 1:04 before halftime and the Lions added two more goals in the first 14 minutes of the second half for the victory. Columbia outshot Hofstra, 27-7 and took 12 penalty corners to the Pride's four

Frankie O'Brien recorded three of Hofstra's four defensive saves.
The Pride return to action on Tuesday, September 18 when they travel to New Haven, Connecticut to face the Pioneers of Sacred Heart at Yale University. Game time is noon.
