Piscataway, NJ – Hofstra Field Hockey freshman goalkeeper
Betty Bosma recorded a season-high 18 saves but the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers scored three times in the first half and added five more in the second 35 minutes to post an 8-0 win over the Pride at the Bauer Track and Field Complex Friday afternoon.
Rutgers, who finished the 2017 season ranked 23
rd in Division I, improved to 2-0 on the season. Hofstra slipped to 1-2 on the year.
Bosma, a newcomer from Deventer, The Netherlands, recorded nine saves in each half to top her previous best mark of 16, set in the season opener against VCU on August 31. The 18 saves by Bosma also equals the NCAA Division I individual single game high for 2018. Holy Cross junior Marcia LaPlante also stopped 18 shots in the Crusaders loss to Maine on August 24.
Red-shirt junior Austyn Cuneo led Rutgers with two goals and one assist while classmate Alanna Gollotto added two goals. Sophomore Daphne Groothuis recorded a goal and three assists for the Scarlet Knights.
Hofstra will return to action on Sunday, September 2 when the Pride travel to West Long Branch, New Jersey to face the Hawks of Monmouth at So Sweet A Cat Field. Game time is 1 p.m.

- Hofstra and Rutgers were meeting for the first time since 2003.The Scarlet Knights now lead the all-time series, 15-2.
- Bosma ranks first in the Colonial Athletic Association and third in Division I in saves per game.
