FH: Hofstra Falls To UML In Title Game

Lowell, MA – Playing in the championship game of the River Hawk Classic, the Hofstra Field Hockey team dropped a 6-0 decision to the UMass Lowell River Hawks at the Cushing Field Complex Sunday afternoon. Hofstra is now 1-1 on the season while UML is 2-0.

Hofstra freshman goalie Betty Bosma, after a superb 16-save performance in Friday evening's semifinal win against VCU, made eight saves Sunday.

The River Hawks scored twice in the first half and added four more goals in the second half. Anouk LaLande tallied three goals for UML while Hok Torrie added one goal and two assists. Goalie Eva Berkout recorded three saves to post her second shutout of the season.

Hofstra freshman Djuna Slort led the Pride with three shots. The Pride was outshot, 20-5 in the contest. UMass Lowell recorded seven penalty corners to Hofstra's 1.

The Pride return to action on Friday, August 31 when Hofstra travels to New Jersey to face the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers at 1 p.m.

Notes:
- Hofstra suffered their first loss to the River Hawks in nine meetings. The Pride now lead the series, 7-1-1.
- The Pride has advanced to the championship game in each of their last three regular season tournament, winning at the Vermont Catamount Classic in 2014 and losing to #5 Syracuse in the Hofstra-Asics Invitational in 2013.
- Hofstra will be facing Rutgers for the 17th time on Friday. The Scarlet Knights lead the series, 14-2.
