Hempstead, NY - In what brought unparalleled attention to Hofstra University, the Department of Athletics and the Men's Basketball program, the Pride became the darling of ESPN as the team made three separate appearances on ESPN's SportsCenter's Top Plays and additional appearances on other shows.
All three contests involved Hofstra hitting game-winning or tying buckets in the final seconds.
The first win was an 85-84 victory over Monmouth on December 6 in which freshman
Jalen Ray drained a three-pointer off a missed free throw by junior
Justin Wright-Foreman, which was tapped out to Ray by sophomore
Stafford Trueheart.
The second exciting finish was on January 5 in an 87-81 overtime win over James Madison as Wright-Foreman sank an off-balance three-pointer at the end of regulation to even the score and propel the Pride to the victory.
The final last second win of the season was a 76-73 victory over Towson on January 11. With the score tied, senior
Hunter Sabety grabbed a defensive rebound and sent the outlet pass to Wright-Foreman, who found Ray open on the wing and the freshman once again was the star as his three-pointer won the game as the clock expired.
