Richmond, VA - The Colonial Athletic Association has announced its men's basketball conference schedule for the 2018-19 campaign.
This season will be the first of a five-year rotating conference schedule that pairs each school with a travel partner. With the exception of the opening weekend (Friday/Sunday), teams will compete in a Thursday/Saturday format that features back-to-back games at home or on the road. During the two weeks in which a team faces its travel partner, both squads will have a bye on Thursday night before playing on Saturday.
Teams will once again conduct an 18-game league schedule with all 10 CAA teams facing each other at home and on the road. The regular-season slate opens on Friday, December 28 and concludes on Saturday, March 2.
The 2019 CAA Men's Basketball Championship will be held March 9-12 at the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, S.C. for the third consecutive year.
"The new travel partner schedule provides better balance and equality for all teams," CAA Commissioner Joe D'Antonio said. "We believe playing a full double round-robin format is the best way to begin the process of determining a true conference champion."
In 2017-18, the CAA was ranked 12th among the nation's 32 Division I conferences in the final NCAA RPI and three teams were among the top 100. The CAA race was extremely competitive with every team recording at least six conference victories for the first time in league history.
Four of the five members of the 2017-18 All-CAA first team return this season – UNCW senior forward Devontae Cacok, Northeastern senior guard Vasa Pusica, Charleston junior guard Grant Riller and Hofstra senior guard
Justin Wright-Foreman. They are joined by second-team All-CAA honorees Jarrell Brantley of Charleston, Nathan Knight of William & Mary and Tyler Seibring of Elon, as well as third-team all-conference picks Stuckey Mosley of James Madison and Justin Pierce of William & Mary.
"The CAA has built a reputation as one of the most competitive conferences in the country and our schools are committed to challenging themselves against quality non-conference competition, with the goal of increasing its number of postseason opportunities." D'Antonio said.
