Preston Edmead had a season-high 23 points, including 18 in the second half, to lead the Hofstra men's basketball team to a come-from-behind 83-77 victory over Bucknell on Friday evening at Sojka Pavillion.
The Pride placed five players in double figures for the third consecutive game with
Cruz Davis tallying 18 points and
Biggie Patterson finishing third with 17 points.
Hofstra evened its record at 2-2, while Bucknell slipped to 2-2.
The Pride trailed 9-7 early before scoring nine straight, culminating with a Patterson steal and dunk, to make it 16-9 with 13:01 showing on the clock. Bucknell was able to take a seven-point lead into the break as they controlled the last few minutes of the opening half.
The Bison lead would grow to 11 just over a minute into the second half before Hofstra began to make its move. Edmead keyed a 10-0 scoring run with back-to-back three-pointers that cut the deficit to 45-44.
Down by one, another three from Edmead would start an 8-0 scoring run that made it 60-53 following a basket from
Victory Onuetu with 11:56 to play. The Pride would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way and took as much as a 14-point lead at 72-58 after a pair of free throws from
German Plotnikov at the 7:50 mark.
Joining the trio in double figures was Onuetu with 11 points and 12 rebounds and Plotnikov with 10 points. Patterson scored 13 of his 17 points in the second stanza. Edmead and Davis each tied for game-high honors with five assists.
Ruot Bijiek, Amon Dorries, and Jayden Williams all had 15 points for Bucknell, with Dorries tallying seven rebounds.
Hofstra will return to action next Wednesday when it travels to Temple for a 7 p.m. contest.
NOTES
- Today was the 32nd all-time meeting between Hofstra and Bucknell, with the Pride narrowing the gap to 20-12 in favor of the Bison with the win. Tonight was the first meeting since an 88-69 Hofstra win on December 4, 2021.
- Hofstra is now 13-2 under
Speedy Claxton when five players score in double figures.
