Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team will host Elon on Friday in the Pride's first Colonial Athletic Association game of the season.
First draw control is scheduled for 3 p.m. from James M. Shuart Stadium.
The game will air on the Lax Sports Network as the "CAA Game of the Week". There will also be Pride Productions live audio and live statistics for the game. Hofstra will close the week when it travels to William & Mary on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest. There will also be live video and statistics for that game as well. Links can be found in the same locations.
The Pride has won three straight games to improve to 6-4 this season following a 17-7 victory over New Hampshire last Thursday. Sophomore
Alyssa Parrella is tops on the team in scoring with 49 points on team-highs of 35 goals and 14 assists. Sophomore
Alexa Mattera, who ranks second in scoring (31 points) is first with 40 draw controls and tied for the team lead with 11 caused turnovers. Sophomore
Darcie Smith leads the Pride with 21 ground balls. Junior
Maddie Fields anchors the Pride in net with a save percentage of .500 and a goals against average of 9.59.
Elon is 1-8 this season but has played a very strong schedule that so far has featured six ranked opponents. They most recently dropped a narrow 14-12 decision to Virginia Tech on March 24. Stephanie Anser has a team-high 27 points for Elon on 25 goals and two assists. Shannon Horan has 18 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers to lead the Phoenix in both categories, while Asher has 45 draw controls as well.
William & Mary is 4-7 this year and was defeated, 12-4, by UC Davis in its last game on March 31. Eloise Gagnon leads the Tribe with 17 points on nine goals and eight assists, while Maddie Torgerson has a team-high 11 goals. Elsa Rall has 27 ground balls to lead William & Mary and Anne Milwicz has 23 draw controls and Cameron MacDonald has 15 caused turnovers.
Hofstra is 1-2 all-time against Elon and 11-6 all-time against William & Mary. The Pride won the first-ever meeting with Elon in 2015, but the Phoenix have won the last two encounters. Hofstra has won four straight games against the Tribe, including an 18-6 victory last season in Hempstead.
