FH: Hofstra Stumbles In Key CAA Game At Drexel

Philadelphia, PA – The Hofstra Field Hockey team spotted the Drexel Dragons four goals in the first half and could never recover as Drexel posted a 5-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Hofstra at Buckley Field in Philadelphia Friday night.

The loss drops the Pride to 5-12 overall and 2-3 in the CAA and puts Hofstra in a must-win situation at Delaware on Sunday for the fourth spot in next week's CAA Championship Tournament. Drexel improved to 9-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

The Dragons scored the first four goals in the contest, including two by Megan Wiest, to take a 4-0 lead after 27 minutes. Avery Powell and Chandler McFeeley tallied the other Drexel goals. But Hofstra freshman Cami Larsson closed the deficit just 2:02 before halftime off a pass from classmate Djuna Slort following a penalty corner. It was goal number seven on the season for Larsson.

Drexel added a goal in the sixth minute of the second half as Amy Ferguson capitalized on a Hofstra turnover to boost the score to 5-1. The Pride was outshot in the contest, 15-8.

Hofstra will wrap up its regular season schedule on Sunday, October 28 when the Pride travel to Newark, Delaware to play the Blue Hens of Delaware at Fred P. Rullo Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m.
