MLAX: Four Hofstra Alums Selected In The MLL Supplemental Draft

Hempstead, NY- Four Hofstra Men's Lacrosse alumni were selected in the 2018 Major Lacrosse League (MLL) Supplemental Draft Wednesday. Defenders Brett Moyer, '06, Christian Scuderi, '10, and Michael Diener, '17 and attackman Sam Llinares, '16 were all selected the draft yesterday.

Diener, a native of Boca Raton, Florida, was selected with the 28th overall pick in the fourth round by the Denver Outlaws. He played in 42 games on defense for the Pride from 2014 through 2017. Diener led the Hofstra defense with 41 ground balls and tallied the first two goals of his career for the 11-3, 16th-ranked Pride last season. He picked up 72 ground balls in 42 games and started 34 games in his career.

Moyer, one of the most honored players in Hofstra history, was selected with the 70th pick in the eighth round by the Florida Launch. The Ridley Park, Pennsylvania native earned USILA All-American honors in 2005 (2nd team) and 2006 (1st team) and honorable mention honors in 2004. Moyer, who was a four-time All-CAA honoree including three consecutive years (2004-05) on the first team, earned CAA Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2005 and 2006. He was also voted the CAA Co-Rookie of the Year in 2003 and earned Most Valuable Player honors in the USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game after his senior year. In his career, he played in 66 games with 63 starts and tallied one goal, five assists and 251 ground balls.

Llinares, a native of Hauppauge, New York, was selected with the 74th overall pick in the ninth round by the Atlanta Blaze. He earned Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year honors in 2015 after scoring with 33 goals and 24 assists. Llinares was also a USILA All-American honorable mention in 2015. He was a three-time All-CAA selection including first team selections in 2014 and 2015 and was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team in 2013 after recording 19 goals and 13 assists. After posting 28 goals and 11 assists in 15 games as a senior, Llinares finished his collegiate career with 101 goals and 80 assists in 58 games. He ranks fourth in assists, sixth in points and ninth in goals on the Hofstra career charts.

Scuderi, a native of West Islip, New York, was selected with the 114th overall pick in the auxiliary round by the New York Lizards. Playing just two years with the Pride after transferring from New York Institute of Technology, where he was a two-time Division II All-American and played on their 2008 Division II National Championship team. At Hofstra, Scuderi was named USILA All-American honorable mention and was an All-CAA first team selection. He was selected to play in the 2010 USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game. He played in 28 games with 28 starts and tallied one assist and 71 ground balls at Hofstra.
