Hempstead, NY – Hofstra sophomore setter
Luisa Sydlik was named the Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office this afternoon.
Sydlik shared the award with Maria Bellinger of Delaware. It marks the third straight week that a member of the Pride was honored by the CAA as freshman
Ivania Ortiz was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on September 4 and freshman
Sanne Maring picked up rookie honors last week.
Sydlik continues to have an outstanding second season in a Pride uniform as she helped Hofstra to a strong 3-1 week. Sydlik dished out 157 assists during the week for a stellar average of 12.08 per set in earning MVP honors at the Hofstra/Asics Invitational. She also added 19 digs, six blocks, four kills and three service aces - and to make the week even better went over 1,000 career assists in the Pride's match against Bryant. Sydlik, who has at least 30 assists in every match this season, averaged 1.46 digs per set to rank fourth on the team last week in that category. She now has 1,053 career assists.
This season Sydlik has 605 assists, 120 digs, 21 blocks, 21 kills and nine service aces for Hofstra (8-6).
The Pride return to action on Friday when it host Charleston at 7 p.m.
