Beatriz Braga had 15 kills and 13 digs to lead an incredible offensive showing as the Hofstra volleyball team easily dispatched of North Carolina A&T in three sets in the CAA semifinals on Friday afternoon to advance to the CAA Championship Match on Saturday.
Hofstra will be making its first appearance in the CAA Championship Match since winning the conference title in 2018. The Pride will be looking for its 10th all-time NCAA Tournament berth.
Clara Bal, who had eight kills in the contest, joined the 1,000-Kills Club at Hofstra with her seventh kill of the match in the fifth set. She became only the 19th player in program history to reach 1,000 career kills.
The win moved Hofstra's record to 22-3, while North Carolina A&T saw its season come to an end with a record of 15-12. Set scores were 25-13, 25-17, and 25-20.
The Pride hit at a .405 clip in the match. It marked the Pride's second-highest of the season, only eclipsed by the .487 hitting percentage against Hampton on October 10.
Izadora Stedile, the CAA Player of the Year, added 13 kills and eight kills in the match.
Constanza Perez Sain was outstanding with 10 kills and a .667 attack percentage.
Hofstra dominated from the beginning as they hit at a .452 clip in the first set, while holding the Aggies to a .047 attack percentage. The Pride never let North Carolina A&T back in the contest, dominating once again in the second stanza before putting the finishing touches on the sweep in the final set.
Nil Kayaalp had a match-high 19 digs in the contest, while
Nina Jioshvili-Ravva (23 assists) and
Ellie Pamatat (15 assists) shared the setting duties.
Tyne Ross posted 13 kills for the Aggies, who also got 28 assists and nine digs from Leonor Pelezzi.
Saturday's championship match against the winner of the Campbell/Stony Brook match will begin at 7 p.m. It will air on FloCollege.
NOTES
- Hofstra improved to 9-1 all-time against North Carolina A&T. The Pride swept all three matches against the Aggies this season.
