Pride Falls In Heartbreaker In CAA Championship Match

Towson, MD - Beatriz Braga had a career-high 25 kills and Clara Bal added a season-high-tying 17 kills, but the Hofstra volleyball dropped a heartbreaking five-set decision to Campbell in the CAA Championship Match on Saturday evening at SECU Arena.

Nil Kayaalp picked up a career-best 27 digs in the match.

The loss dropped Hofstra's record to 22-4, with all four losses this season coming in five sets. Campbell, which earned the CAA's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, improved to 23-6. Set scores were 26-24, 17-25, 20-25, 26-24, and 15-12 in favor of the Camels.

After dropping a narrow opening stanza, Hofstra would take the next two sets in rather convincing fashion to open up a 2-1 lead in the contest. The Pride took the lead with a dominant offensive showing in the third set, hitting at a .385 clip.

Campbell battled back in the fourth set, coming back from a big deficit late and then fighting off several Pride match points before earning the win and knotting the match at two sets each.

Both teams were flowing offensively in the final set, but it was Campbell that would capture the match and the conference title.

Izadora Stedile added 20 kills and 14 digs for Hofstra, which also got 36 assists from Nina Jioshvili-Ravva and 26 assists from Ellie Pamatat

Gwen Wolkow had 23 kills and 12 digs for Campbell, while Hannah Pattie posted 26 assists and 10 digs.

The Pride's Braga and Bal were named to the CAA All-Tournament Team.
