New York, N.Y. and Boston, Mass. – The Hofstra Women's Soccer team stays on the road this weekend, heading to local rival Columbia for a 6 p.m. tilt on Friday before traveling to Boston University for a 4 p.m. game on Sunday.
Both games will be available via live stats and video, with links on this page and the Hofstra Women's Soccer schedule page. The match at Columbia will be broadcast via the Ivy League Network, which requires a paid subscription or one-time fee.
The Pride (0-2-0) will be looking for its first win of the season after falling to Pittsburgh and Penn State on opening weekend. The Panthers took a 1-0 win on a goal in the 88th minute on Friday, despite Hofstra outshooting Pitt, 11-5. The Nittany Lions used a strong second half to top the Pride, 3-0, on Sunday.
Goalkeeper
Ashley Wilson made five saves against Penn State, one shy of tying a career high. Freshman
Sabrina Bryan recorded three shots in her collegiate debut at Pitt, including ringing one off the post late in the game for arguably the Pride's best chance of the weekend.
Columbia (0-0-0) will be playing its first game of the season on Friday due to Ivy League schedules. The Lions finished third in the conference last season and return five All-Ivy selections and all three of its leading scorers. Emma Anderson led the team a year ago with five goals and three assists.
Hofstra leads the all-time series with Lions, 7-4-1, including taking last year's meeting, 1-0, at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
The Pride earned its first Division I win over Boston University (0-2-0) last season with a 2-0 win at home. Like Hofstra, the Terriers fell short in each of their opening-weekend matchups, losing to Louisville, 3-2, and Cincinnati, 2-0. BU is the Patriot League preseason favorite for the fifth straight season after finishing conference play 8-1 last season. Rachel Bloznalis was named Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, while Julianna Chen was tabbed Preseason Midfielder of the Year.
The Terriers lead the all-time series with Hofstra, 9-1-1.
After the trips to Columbia and BU, Hofstra will open its home schedule at 7 p.m. on Aug. 31 against Eastern Washington at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
