Hofstra Falls To Stony Brook On Overtime Penalty Kick

Stony Brook, NY - Reilly Rich scored on a penalty kick with eight seconds remaining in the first overtime to give second-seeded Stony Brook a 2-1 victory over No. 3 Hofstra in a Coastal Athletic Association North Division Quarterfinal at LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves advance to the CAA North Division Semifinals Sunday at top-seeded Monmouth.

Hofstra ends its season at 6-5-7, while Stony Brook improves to 11-6-1.

The Seawolves opened the scoring at 30:01 when Abigail Roche's free kick service found the head of Reilly Rich. The graduate forward flicked a shot and sent it past keeper Lilly Bailey into the lower right corner. Hofstra had several first half chances with the best being Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir's drive off the post about six minutes into the contest.

The Pride would equalize just over 10 minutes into the second half when the Seawolves turned the ball over in their defensive zone. An errant pass went to Braithwaite on the right side and her shot from 25 yards out went right inside the near post.

Neither team would find the back of the net during the rest of regulation. But with eight seconds remaining, the Pride was whistled for a foul in the box to set up Rich's game-winner.
