MBB: Hofstra To Embark On Trip To Canada Later This Summer

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men's Basketball team will go on a seven-day trip to Canada in late August / early September, and the trip will see the Pride play three games against Canadian universities.

Hofstra will head north on Monday, August 28 and make its return to campus on Sunday, September 3. The trip will take Hofstra to both Montreal and Ottawa.

"What an exciting educational journey this will be for our program," commented Hofstra University Head Men's Basketball Coach Joe Mihalich. "We are excited to take our team to Canada as we experience and learn about another culture, while preparing for the upcoming season with games against some terrific competition."

The first of the Pride's three games will be on Tuesday when they face the University of Quebec in Montreal at 7 p.m.

Wednesday and Thursday will allow the Pride two days to build team camaraderie and to fully engross themselves in the culture of the area as they see the various sites and explore the community. This important educational part of the experience will see Hofstra visit a multitude of historical sites in addition to learning about the cultures of Montreal and Ottawa. Both cities will offer the Pride amazing experiences as Montreal has a strong French culture and Ottawa is the capital of Canada.

Hofstra will then head back on the court on Friday as it faces Concordia University at 7 p.m. The Pride's final game on this exciting journey will be against McGill University on Saturday at 3 p.m.

NCAA rules allow a team to hold 10 days of practice prior to a foreign trip and the Pride will prepare for the trip beginning in mid-August. Hofstra's 2017-18 team will all make the trip, including the Pride's newcomers.

Although not official games, this marks the first trip for the Hofstra Men's Basketball team outside the United States since taking part in the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands during the 2015-16 season.
