Hempstead, N.Y. – For the second consecutive week, freshman pitcher
Sarah Cornell of Hofstra Softball has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Cornell had a career week going 2-0 in the circle for Hofstra, throwing her first no-hitter – and the Pride's first since Feb. 14, 2015 – in a 3-0 win over Elon. She struck out nine in the win over the Phoenix, matching a personal best that she had set just three days earlier in a 6-2 victory over local rival Stony Brook on Wednesday. The rookie walked just three in 14.0 innings pitched last week.
The Westbury, New York, native has wins in her past five decisions, helping Hofstra to a seven-game win streak. The Pride travels to Binghamton on Tuesday for a nonconference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
