WLAX: Four Hofstra Alumnae Chosen In UWLX Draft

4/18/2017 4:00:00 PM

Hempstead, NY – The United Women's Lacrosse League held its draft yesterday and four Hofstra Women's Lacrosse Alumnae were chosen.

The four Pride alumnae drafted include Corrine Gandolfi (Baltimore), Brittain Altomare (Baltimore), Kelsey Gregerson (Long Island) and Katie Hertsch (Philadelphia). Gandolfi is a 2010 Hofstra graduate, Altomare is a 2015 graduate, Gregerson graduated in 2015 and Hertsch graduated in 2011.

This is the second year of existence for the UWLX. In 2016 Hofstra Head Coach Shannon Smith coached Long Island to the title, while current assistant coach Shanna Brady, along with former Pride student-athletes Kelsey Gregerson and Lindsay Scott, all played for the Sound and were members of the championship squad.

Last year five people associated with the Hofstra program took part in the UWLX as Smith was a head coach and Scott, Gregerson, Corrine Gandolfi (Baltimore) and Hertsch (Philadelphia) all were members of the league.

The 2017 UWLX season gets underway on May 27 in Attleboro, Massachusetts. All four member clubs will return to UWLX play in 2017, with the Long Island Sound defending their 2016 league championship against the Baltimore Ride, Boston Storm and Philadelphia Force. Each team will play a seven-match regular season that will run from May 25 until July 21.

The 2017 UWLX Playoffs will commence with two semifinal matches on July 29, and the championship game will occur the following week on August 2. In the postseason, the no. 1 ranked team in the league standings will play the no. 4 club, while the no. 2 and no. 3 teams will also meet on the other side of the playoff bracket. The winners of those two matches will then play in the championship match.
