MBB: Hofstra To Face League-Leading UNCW On Saturday

Wilmington, NC – The Hofstra Men's Basketball team will have a stern test on Saturday as the Pride will face conference-leading UNCW at 2 p.m. from Trask Coliseum.

There will be Pride Productions live video/audio of the game with links available on this page and via the men's basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com. The Pride Productions audio only broadcast can be heard via the portal, on the WRHU mobile app and on WRHU.org.

Hofstra (9-9, 1-4 CAA) will be facing a Seahawk squad that is one of three Colonial Athletic Association teams that currently is 5-0 in league action. They are joined atop the standings by Charleston and Northeastern.

Saturday's contest will be the first between Hofstra and UNCW since the two teams met in the CAA Championship Game last season. The Seahawks won that encounter by the score of 80-73 in overtime.

The Pride most recently dropped a 96-80 decision at Elon on Thursday. Hofstra fought back from a huge second half deficit to close the gap to as few as seven before the Phoenix put an end to any thoughts of a Pride comeback. Senior Deron Powers posted 21 points, eight assists and four rebounds in the game, while freshman Eli Pemberton added 16, sophomore Justin Wright-Foreman tallied 14 and senior Brian Bernardi chipped in with 13. Pemberton also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Pride.

UNCW is 16-2 overall following a 101-77 victory over William & Mary on Thursday evening.

Four players average in double figures for the Seahawks, led by C.J. Bryce's 17.8 points per game. Denzel Ingram is third in scoring with 15.4 points and has 5.8 assists per outing. Devontae Cacok leads UNCW with 9.8 rebounds per game and is fourth with 13.8 points per outing. Chris Flemmings ranks second on the team with 16 points per game.

Hofstra also has four players in double figures as Pemberton is first with 13.7 points and Wright-Foreman is right behind at 13.6. Powers ranks third in scoring at 12.8 points per game and leads the team with 4.9 assists per game, while Bernardi is fourth on the team in scoring with 12.5 points per contest.

The series between Hofstra and UNCW has been quite close with the Pride holding a narrow 18-17 lead in the all-time meetings. The series began when Hofstra joined the CAA beginning with the 2001-02 campaign. The Pride has won five of the last eight meetings in the series.
