Hempstead, NY – There will be no easing into Colonial Athletic Association play for the Hofstra Volleyball team in 2016 as the Pride will face two of the last three CAA champions to open the conference slate.
Hofstra will take on Charleston, the 2013 champion, on Friday at 7 p.m. The Pride will then face UNCW, the 2015 champion, on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Hofstra, the 2014 champion, brings a 10-3 overall record into this weekend and is in the midst of a four-match win streak.
There will be live video/audio available for both matches, along with live statistics. The broadcasts can be found via the Pride Productions portal, along with links on this page and on the volleyball schedule page at GoHofstra.com. Live stats can also be accessed on the schedule page and via links on this page as well.
Hofstra is in the midst of the four-match win streak as the Pride added three wins to that ledger last week with victories over Seton Hall, Fort Wayne and American. It is Hofstra's second win streak of four matches this season.
The Pride has been very balanced offensively this season as five different players have at least 110 kills, led by
Veronika Kostova's 172. On the defensive end,
Luisa Domingues has posted a team-high 226 digs to lead the team by a wide margin. Hofstra has shared the setting duties at times this season as
Hannah Klemm is tops on the roster with 414 assists, while
Luisa Sydlik has dished out 193 to rank second.
Michela Rucli has a team-high 41 blocks to pace the Pride in that category.
Charleston is 7-5 overall this season and enters this week having just defeated Virginia in five sets this past Saturday.
UNCW is 10-2 in 2016 and is also coming off a huge win this past weekend as they took down North Carolina State in four sets on Saturday.
Hofstra is 4-5 all-time against Charleston and 23-5 all-time against UNCW. The Pride won two of the three matches with the Cougars in 2015, although Charleston ended Hofstra's season in the CAA Quarterfinals. The Seahawks and the Pride split the season series a year ago with each team winning on the opponent's home court.
