Hofstra (7-3) went 2-1 last week, sweeping Syracuse and Siena and dropping a four-set match to #17 Penn State. All three matches occurred at the Syracuse Tournament. The second set win by Hofstra vs. #17 Penn State marked the first set win by Hofstra against a ranked team since taking the second set against #17 Michigan State back on September 15, 2000. Hofstra's sweep of Syracuse marked the program's first win over a current member of the Atlantic Coast Conference since defeating Boston College on September 13, 2008.
Against this week's opponents, Hofstra is 7-6 all-time against Seton Hall, 0-1 against Fort Wayne and 2-1 versus American. The Pride last faced Seton Hall last season, dropping a tough four-set contest. The only match with Fort Wayne occurred during the 2005 season and the Pride last faced American in 1998.
Seton Hall is 5-4 this season and is currently on a five-match win streak. Fort Wayne is 4-6 and defeated St. Francis (PA) in its last match. American is 6-5 and enters the week having dropped three straight matches.
This week marks the conclusion of the Pride's non-conference slate as Hofstra will head south to Charleston (September 23) and UNCW (September 25) to open Colonial Athletic Association play.
