Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Volleyball team will open the 2016 season this weekend when it takes part in the Black Knights Invitational at Army West Point. 

Hofstra will open with Valparaiso on Friday at 5 p.m. before facing CSU Bakersfield and the host Black Knights at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, on Saturday.

Hofstra returns eight players from last season's 21-win team, including its top four in kills, the team's leader in assists, the top five in blocks in 2015, the top two in service aces last season and four of the top five in digs from last year.

The Pride was picked first in the preseason Colonial Athletic Association coaches poll last week and seniors Hannah Klemm and Veronika Kostova, along with junior Leticia Valente were all named to the preseason CAA Volleyball team. 

Among this week's opponents, Hofstra is 0-2 against Valparaiso and 5-2 versus Army West Point. The last meeting against both of those schools occurred in 2010. This will be the first ever meeting between the Pride and CSU Bakersfield. 

Following this week's tournament, Hofstra will face Stony Brook in its home opener on Tuesday, August 30 at 7 p.m. That match will take place at the David S. Mack Fitness Center. The Pride's first six home matches will be played at the Fitness Center before returning to the Mack Physical Education Center beginning on October 6 against Towson.
