WREST: Hofstra's Hudson Earns An EIWA Academic Achievement Award

Hempstead, NY – Hofstra Pride graduate-student wrestler Jamel Hudson has been selected to receive one of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Academic Achievement Awards for 2016. He was one of 16 wrestlers in the 16-school conference to receive the academic award.

The EIWA Academic Achievement Award is presented to conference wrestlers who have achieved a
cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.2, won 60% of his total schedule while competing in 60% of his team's schedule and/or was an EIWA place-winner, or achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and qualified for the NCAA Championships through the EIWA.

This season, Hudson, a native of Bay Shore, NY, posted a 21-10 record at 141 pounds, including an 8-4 mark in dual matches. He placed fourth in the EIWA Championships at Princeton to earn his second consecutive bid to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at Madison Square Garden.

Hudson earned a 3.27 GPA and received his bachelor's degree in rhetorical studies this past December. He is on target to receive a master's degree later this year.

In 2014-15, Hudson was 24-6 overall including a 13-2 mark in dual matches. He placed fifth in the EIWA Championships at Lehigh to punch his ticket to the NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis.

The 16 EIWA Academic Achievement Awards were spread out over seven schools with Bucknell receiving four honorees, Brown, Drexel and Navy each receiving three award-winners, and Hofstra, American and Sacred Heart each receiving one honoree.
