MBB: Hofstra And UNCW To Battle For CAA Title On Monday Night

Baltimore  – The Hofstra Men's Basketball team will look to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2000-01 season when the Pride take on UNCW in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Game on Monday evening.

Tip-off from Royal Farms Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The game will air nationally on the NBC Sports Network and will be broadcast on WRHU (88.7 FM) in the Hempstead area.

There will be live video of the game (via NBC Sports Network) with links available on this page or via the men's basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com. The Pride Productions audio only broadcast can be heard via the portal and the WRHU mobile app as well.

Hofstra will attempt to qualify for its fifth NCAA Tournament as a Division I program (since 1972-73) with the previous appearances occurring in 1975-76, 1976-77, 1999-2000 and 2000-01.

Monday's game will mark Hofstra's second-ever appearance in the CAA Title Game as coincidentally enough the Pride met the Seahawks in the 2006 title game.

Hofstra advanced to the championship game with a 70-67 win over William & Mary on Sunday afternoon as senior forward Ameen Tanksley posted a game-high 23 points for the Pride. The game-winning basket came with 8.5 seconds left as senior guard Juan'ya Green fed graduate forward Denton Koon under the basket. Green finished with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Koon added 10 points.

UNCW also moved on with a three-point victory as the Seahawks held on to defeat Northeastern, 73-70. Chris Flemmings led UNCW with 21 points, while Denzel Ingram added 14 points, eight assists and three rebounds.

The series between Hofstra and UNCW has been quite close with the Pride holding a narrow 18-16 lead in the all-time meetings. The series began when Hofstra joined the CAA beginning with the 2001-02 campaign. The Pride has won five of the last seven meetings in the series, but the teams split this season's regular season meetings. Both squads came back from large deficits on the road to capture victories.
