BB: Hofstra Completes Sweep Of Coppin State With 15-0 Win

Bel Air, MD - Eight Pride players drove in runs and four pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout as Hofstra completed a three-game sweep of Coppin State with a 15-0 victory Sunday at Harford Sports Complex. The shutout was Hofstra's second consecutive in the series.

Mat Annunziata led the way with four RBIs, while Bowie Matteson went five innings and allowed four hits with five strikeouts to even his record at 1-1. Chris Hardardt, Ryan Karl and Brad Witkowski each knocked in a pair of runs, while Teddy Cillis tallied a team-high three hits and scored three runs.

Hofstra is now 3-7 on the season, while Coppin State fell to 1-8 overall.

The Pride scored all they would need in the first inning, loading the bases before Annunziata cleared them with a three-run double. Hofstra scored two more in the second as Steven Foster drove home Cillis with a sacrifice fly and Witkowski drove in David Leiderman with a single.

After a scoreless third, the Pride scored three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, three in the sixth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth to complete their 15-run outburst. Hofstra totaled 49 runs in the series to go along with 42 hits.

Matteson gave up four singles and walked just one batter in his five innings. John Rooney came on and struck out five in two innings of hitless relief. Chris Bonk had two strikeouts in his inning of relief, while Brendan Mulligan also struck out two batters in the ninth.

Aaron Rea fell to 0-3 for the Eagles after allowing five runs on four hits in two innings of work.

Hofstra returns to action Wednesday afternoon at Army. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

-Mat Annunziata had two doubles and his four RBIs moved him into a tie with Brad Witkowski for the team lead with 10
-Hofstra's pitching staff has a 22 inning scoreless streak
-Bowie Matteson lowered his ERA to 1.69
