BB: Seventh Inning Rally Gives Ohio State 2-1 Win Over Hofstra

Columbus, OH - For the second day in a row Hofstra got a strong outing from its starting pitcher and for the second day in a row Ohio State used a late rally to grab a 2-1 victory and complete the series sweep.

Today it was Bowie Matteson who twirled a gem for the Pride, following yesterday's start from Chris Weiss. Matteson held the Buckeyes scoreless through six innings before surrendering a pair of runs in the seventh.

Hofstra (5-14) had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning as Steven Foster singled home Kevin O'Connor, who had led off the inning with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.

But that was the only offense the Pride could mount and Ohio State finally got to Matteson in the seventh. Troy Montgomery drew a one-out walk and came in to score on a triple from Brady Cherry. Ronnie Dawson followed with a single that scored Cherry with what turned out to be the winning run.

Matteson (1-2) allowed the two runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings. He also had six strikeouts.

Ohio State (11-6-1) starter John Havird was equally as good, allowing one run on four hits in seven innings to even his record at 1-1.

O'Connor had two hits for the Pride in three at-bats. Ryan Karl added two hits in four trips to the plate.

Hofstra is back in action Tuesday night when it takes on Manhattan College at Hudson Valley Stadium. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
