BB: Hofstra Drops Road Contest At Manhattan

Wappinger Falls, NY - Anthony Rondon's second inning single snapped a 1-1 tie and Manhattan went on to a 5-1 victory over Hofstra Tuesday night at Dutchess Stadium.

The Pride slipped to 5-15 with the loss while Manhattan improved to 4-13.

The Jaspers scored a run in the first as Adam Genners drew a leadoff walk, stole second and would come in on a single from Fabian Pena. Hofstra tied the score in the top of the second as Teddy Cillis singled with two outs and went to second on a passed ball. After moving to third on a wild pitch, the redshirt sophomore would come in to score on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt.

But that would be the only offense the Pride would muster and Manhattan scored the go ahead run in the second with Michael Pfenninger reaching on a two-hit single. After stealing second, Rondon singled to right to knock in the second run for Manhattan.

The Jaspers would score twice in the fifth with Pena driving in a run and also scoring on a passed ball. Manhattan closed the scoring in the sixth with a run scoring single from Jose Carrera.

Dave Jesch (0-2) took the loss for the Pride, allowing two runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings. John Rooney went the rest of the way and was charged with three runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings. Both Hofstra pitchers recorded five strikeouts.

Marc Galvan (1-0) picked up the win, allowing an unearned run on two hits in five innings of work.

Hofstra had three hits in the game with Cillis, Max Dolente and David Leiderman (triple) each collecting one.

Pena was 3-3 with two RBIs for Manhattan.

Hofstra will be back in action Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Monmouth at 3 p.m.
